House Rules can also be found here.

What is your pet policy?

We also love our pets, and happily welcome yours to join you during your stay! However, we do have a few requirements and guidelines that must be followed in the house. Please make sure you have read and agree to these before booking. We allow a maximum of 3 pets per stay. Guests are fully responsible for any and all damage caused by the presence of their pets on the property.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CATS & DOGS TO STAY

(For other types of pets, please message for permission before booking.)

1. Must be older than 6 months and house-trained.

2. Must not be known to have destructive behavior (chewing/scratching of furniture, etc.)

3. Must be current on flea medication.

HOUSE RULES FOR PETS:

1. Pets are not allowed on furniture or beds.

2. Pets may not be left alone in the house unsupervised for more than 1 hour at a time unless in a crate.

3. You must take your pet out for restroom breaks regularly to avoid accidents inside the house. If your pet relieves themself near the house, please pick up after them. Waste baggies and disposal bin are provided just off the front deck of the house.

Will it cost extra to bring my pets?

Yes, we do charge pet fees. The exact amount depends on which booking partner you choose to book your stay through.

All pets you wish to bring must be included in your booking information at the time of booking. We allow a maximum of 3 pets per stay.

Is smoking permitted anywhere at the house?

Indoors- never.

Outdoors- in designated smoking area only.

Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited indoors at all times. Smoking outdoors is permitted only within the designated smoking area on the rear house deck. All butts and unfinished cigarettes must be deposited within the provided disposal container. Do not flick or toss them nor allow them to drop between the deck boards where they may create a fire hazard.

Are campfires, candles, or fireworks allowed?

No, never.

No fires or open flames of any kind are permitted anywhere on the property, including but not limited to; candles, fire pits, camp fires, and bonfires, regardless of the current local fire permissions. Likewise, fireworks of any kind are never permitted on the property.

The Shasta-Trinity National Forest, where we are located, is a strong fire risk area, and as such we are extra cautious when it comes to observing fire safety and protecting our house, our guests, and our neighbors. We appreciate your cooperation!

Does your fire policy also include the fireplace/wood burning stove?

No, our no-fires policy does not include the wood burning stove in our living room. Guests are free to enjoy this amenity, which is particularly cozy during the winter months. We do ask that you please first be sure you are knowledgeable and experienced with its proper operation and burn only firewood, (which we do provide plenty of.) No other materials or substances should be burned in the stove, and the door should be kept closed at all times. If a guest is not familiar with the stove’s proper operation, one of our hosts will be happy to come by and demonstrate during your stay.

How much of the property will we have access to? Will we be sharing any space with others?

We only offer whole-house rentals, and do not rent individual rooms. As a guest, you will have exclusive use of the entire main house and the 3.8 acres of land it sits on. There are a few locked storage closets in the house and unoccupied support structures and deck areas on the property that are currently off-limits to guests. These areas are clearly marked with signs, and will not limit your access to the house and amenities described in our listing in any way.

Can I have my party or event here?

We do not currently allow parties, events, or large gatherings on the property. Only the guests listed when you book are permitted onto the property.

I’ve already booked for a specific number of guests, but now another guest wants to join us. Can I add them to the booking?

It depends. As long as your group will still be at or below our max occupancy of 12 guests (9 adults) and 3 pets, you can add additional guests to your booking. However, you must report this change to us ahead of your arrival. Depending on the size of your original party, adding more guests and/or pets to your booking may result in your rate increasing, and you will be charged the additional amount in order for the new guests to be approved to join you.

Does your property have lake access?

We are conveniently located less than 1,000 ft from the water, and while you technically can hike from our property down to the lake, we do not recommend it for most guests. Unless you are an experienced hiker and outdoors-person, the very steep return hike and the absence of a marked trail may prove more difficult than most guests would prefer, and it may also not be clear when you are on public land vs. trespassing on private property.

Instead, for a more leisurely approach, just drive a few short minutes to one of the 2 very nearby public lake access sites; Bailey Cove and Packers Bay.

Is the house wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately, both entrances do currently require using a couple steps. While we hope to be able to add such accommodations in the future, please note that at this time the house is not easily accessible for wheelchairs or anyone unable to climb a couple steps.

Is the yard safe for children to play in?

Please note that the property is in a rural environment, and there is no fence separating our property from the surrounding woods. The land around the house should in no way be considered "child-proofed." Children's outside play should be supervised, and potentially hazardous areas or objects should be avoided.

Are there cameras present?

Yes, for the safety and security of our property and its guests, we do have several outdoor security cameras in place at the entry points of every structure and also the driveway. The home's interior is, of course, completely private and camera-free.

Is self-check-in available?

Yes, all of our guests will use self-check-in unless otherwise requested. You will be given a randomly-generated door code that will be specific to your group. It will automatically become active 15 minutes prior to your scheduled check-in time and automatically deactivate 15 minutes after your scheduled check-out time on your last morning.

Our team is all on-call 24/7 to assist with any general questions, recommendations, emergencies, and urgent needs, but will otherwise plan to give you your privacy during your stay.

Do you offer any discounts or promotions?

Yes, we are almost always offering discounts for a number of booking options, usually based on length of stay. Any discounts applicable to your selected dates are applied automatically when you enter your booking information to check availability. Additionally, we will periodically offer exclusive discounts and special offers to guests who choose to be added to our mailing list.

Does the house have wifi? Will my cell phone get service out there?

Yes, we are able to provide unlimited WiFi and a cell-phone signal booster to help you stay connected inside the house during your stay, even way out here in the woods.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation policies may differ depending on which booking partner you use to book your stay with us. In most cases, you can receive a full refund if you cancel early enough, and a partial refund if you cancel nearer your check-in date. Please see the specific cancellation policy on our listing with your preferred booking partner’s website when reserving your booking.

When booking with us directly through this site, the standard cancellation policy is:

  • 100% refundable when canceled up to 14 days before arrival

  • 50% refundable when canceled 3-13 days before arrival

  • Non-refundable after 2 days before arrival

Note: This information is provided for reference only. Please verify at checkout that this policy is up to date. The policy provided at checkout is the official and legally binding policy for your booking.

Note: in California, by law, you will always receive a full refund if you cancel less than 24 hours after booking.

How much parking is there? Can I bring my boat?

We have over 1600 sq. ft. of designated private parking space on the property, plus a 200+ ft. long driveway, plenty of room for multiple vehicles and your boats or other toys.

Should I be worried about bears?

This is bear country, and our property has on occasion been visited by them. However, bear attacks toward humans are extremely rare. Bears will generally avoid humans and are not usually looking for trouble. When our house has received visits from our bear neighbors, it has always been at night when humans are sleeping. What they are often looking for is food, so in order to discourage them from approaching the property, please follow these general guidelines:

Do not leave any food outside the house.

Keep your food trash inside in the waste bins during your stay. Our team will take them out after you check out. If you find you do need to take trash bags outside, please use a bin with functioning lid clasps and be sure the clasps are secure to discourage scavengers.

For more information on bear safety in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, visit the USDA National Forest website: https://www.fs.usda.gov/visit/know-before-you-go/bears

(We also include this information in our Guest Guide Books.)

Is the house available for short/long stays?

There currently is no minimum length for your stay, so you can book for as short as 1 night. (However, the more nights you book, the more value you can get per night on your total booking price.) Our short stays are limited to a maximum of 28 nights, but longer stays may be considered on a case-by-case basis at a significant discount. Message us through your preferred booking provider (use the button at the bottom of this site to link directly to one of our listings) to request consideration and discuss pricing for your extended stay.

What are your rates? Are there any additional/hidden fees?

Nightly rates vary based on a number of factors, including: seasonality, availability, group size, and length of stay. To find the rate for your specific visit, check our booking tool found at the link in the footer below.

The rate displayed includes all applicable fees and taxes. There are no hidden or additional fees. However, when booking with us directly, you will be given the option to purchase premium add-on services at checkout for additional fees only should you desire them.

Why does your occupancy say 12 guests (9 adults)?

The Shasta County Short Term Rental Ordinance prevents us from hosting more than 3 adults per bedroom. Therefore, since our house has 3 bedrooms, we cannot host more than 9 adults. However, the county does not restrict the number of children, so any children in your party may use the remaining available bed spaces, up to 12 people total.

Please note that we have a total of: 6 beds, 1 pull out sofa bed, 1 indoor hammock, and 1 baby crib, so max occupancy assumes some sharing of beds. Due to this and the number of bathrooms (2,) we recommend 8 guests as a more comfortable max group size, though we are still very happy to accommodate your group of up to 12.
